Fox Lake Golf Club
Wisconsin's Finest Public Golf Course
Our Story
Founded in 1922, Fox Lake Golf Club began with a simple idea—and a lot of determination.
In the winter of 1921, six local men, disappointed by the loss of a nearby golf club, gathered to create something new. Their vision wasn’t just about golf. They wanted a place where people of all ages could gather—a destination for recreation, connection, and community along the beautiful shores of Fox Lake.
By the summer of 1922, that vision became reality.
With just $330, hand tools, and plenty of grit, the founders built the original course themselves—carving fairways out of pastureland and shaping greens by hand. In those early days, maintenance looked a little different… a flock of 70 sheep helped keep the course trimmed!
The first clubhouse was humble—a small, portable building made from donated materials—but it served its purpose: a place to gather, take shelter, and share in something special. Greens fees? Just $1 a day.
As membership quickly grew, so did the club. By the late 1920s, Fox Lake Golf Club had become much more than a golf course. A new clubhouse with electricity brought people together for weekly traditions—bridge parties on Tuesdays, Ladies Day on Wednesdays, and lively Friday night picnics filled with music and dancing. The club became a hub for everything from baby showers and weddings to proms and holiday celebrations.
Through the decades, the course continued to evolve—but its heart never changed.
Fox Lake Golf Club has always been a place where golf and community go hand in hand, and much of its history remains—including the large farm bell on the patio that once rang golfers in for dinner and warned of approaching storms.
What started as a handmade 9-hole course has grown into the 18-hole layout you see today, blending classic wooded holes with newer links-style design. Today, that same care and dedication can be seen in the pristine conditions of the course, earning Fox Lake Golf Club recognition as Dodge County’s Best Golf Course for the past two years.
Yet even with modern updates, the spirit of those original six founders lives on.
Fox Lake Golf Club was built for everyone—and it still is.
Whether you’re here to play a round, enjoy an event, or simply take in the lakeside atmosphere, you’re part of a tradition that’s been over a century in the making.
